Some religious leaders asked him, “Are we blind also?” Jesus had just declared, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind” (John 9:39 NKJV).

Thieves and robbers do not enter the sheepfold by the door but climb in another way (John 10:1). The shepherd enters by the door, calls His sheep by name, and leads them to pasture (10:2–4). His sheep will not follow the voice of a stranger (10:5). Jesus further revealed to those who hear His voice that “there will be one flock and one shepherd” (10:16).

If Jesus were not the Good Shepherd, then He would be a thief or robber of the flock. He declared, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (John 10:11; cf. Psalm 23). Christ revealed, “I lay down My life that I may take it again” (10:17). Peter taught that Jesus is the chief Shepherd, the lead Pastor, and God has entrusted elders to shepherd the flock (1 Peter 5:1–4; cf. Acts 20:28–31).
