Dinosaurs on Noah's Ark

Jesus Christ accepted the biblical Flood (Matt 24:37–39). The source on which Jesus relied refers to a notable beast, the behemoth. One of the biblical dinosaurs is the behemoth of the Book of Job. In the Book of Job, God described a large animal eating like an ox in the field moving a tail like a cider tree. Job 40 records God speaking directly to Job. God declared, “Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. See now, his strength is in his hips, And his power is in his stomach muscles. He moves his tail that like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit” (Job 40:15–17).

Putting this description of the tail to the test in a word study, the passage is describing the tail to be like a tree rather than a branch or simply something moving like a tree. The passage described a beast that can only be a dinosaur. God spoke to Job as Job would have seen the animal for himself. Behemahs found throughout the Bible.

Behemoth is a term transliterated from Hebrew for a general type of land animal. Behemahs are mentioned 190 times in the Old Testament Scriptures. This creature is a land animal like the ox. Behemah is often translated as “cattle,” “beast,” or simply “animals.” As God revealed that He created the behemoth, Genesis also depicts that God created the behemahs in the beginning.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle [behemah] and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle [behemah] according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle [behemah], over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Gen 1:24–26, cf. 2:20).

Did the Flood kill the Behemah?

So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast [behemah], creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them” (Gen 6:7).

And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle [behemah] and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died. So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle [behemah], creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive” (Gen 7:21–23).

Were there behemah on Noah’s ark?

But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. (20) Of the birds after their kind, of animals [behemahs] after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive (Gen 6:18–20; cf. Gen 7:2, 8, 14; “animals” Lev 11:2–3).

Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals [behemahs] that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided (Gen 8:1).

Did these behemoths continue to live and multiply after leaving the ark? God instructed, “Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle [behemah] and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth” (Gen 8:17). Genesis also depicts, “Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal [behemah] and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar” (Gen 8:20).

After the Flood and during the time of the biblical patriarchs like Abraham, God knew that Job witnessed the behemoth among the kinds of behemah. The behemoth having a tail like a cider tree. A disciple of Jesus Christ must recognize God’s creation of the dinosaur as much as one relies on the words of Jesus Christ for faith in the Genesis account of Creation.
