How much have Christian wives influenced their children, the church, and the world by glorifying God with Christ-like behavior? Christ-like wives respect and support their husbands. How has that Christian model changed the world? God blessed humanity with marriage, and He has blessed the world with Christ’s selfless model. Christ gave Himself for the church, and thus His example influences marriages for the better.
Contrary to the self-centered, degraded, or controlling approaches of many wives, the Scriptures teach women another way that is a Christ-like approach (Eph 5:22–24). Christ’s submission to the Father models the wife’s submission to her husband. This is not a submission of lesser value, but a willing submission to God’s order for marriage. God uses the wife to help the husband become a better man and leader. Therefore, older Christian women are to teach younger women “to love their husbands” (Titus 2:4–5).
May all Christians pray for wives to be Christ-like.
Nine Ways for a Wife to Better Love Her Husband
(1) She must submit to her husband as to the Lord (Eph 5:22–24; cf. Col 3:18; 1 Pet 3:1–2).
(2) She must respect her husband (Eph 5:33; cf. 1 Pet 3:1–6).
(3) She must do her husband good and not evil all the days of her life (Prov 31:11–12).
(4) She does not act contemptuously, rebelliously, or disrespectfully toward her husband (Eph 5:33; cf. Prov 12:4; 21:9, 19).
(5) She must not neglect the intimate union with her husband (1 Cor 7:1–9).
(6) She cultivates the hidden person of her heart with a gentle and quiet spirit (1 Pet 3:3–4).
(7) She lives with her husband in a manner that is holy, pure, and understanding (Titus 2:4–5; 1 Pet 3:1–2).
(8) She honors and supports her husband as the head of the household (Eph 5:22–24; cf. Gen 2:18; 1 Cor 11:3).
(9) She encourages godly leadership, supports her husband’s good works, and builds up her household (Prov 31:10–31; cf. Titus 2:4–5).
