According to the Scriptures, the work of a minister is to:

  • Teach and instruct fellow Christians in sound doctrine (1 Timothy 4:6; 2 Timothy 1:13; Titus 2:1),
  • Preach and evangelize (2 Timothy 4:2, 5; Titus 1:3),
  • Charge others not to teach other doctrines (1 Timothy 1:3–4),
  • Correct open sin (1 Timothy 5:20–21; Titus 2:15),
  • Give attention wholly to reading, exhortation, and doctrine in Christ (1 Timothy 1:13; 4:13–16),
  • Charge others not to dispute (2 Timothy 2:14–16, 24–26),
  • Reject divisive men (Titus 3:10-11),
  • Train faithful people to teach (2 Timothy 2:2),
  • Help appoint elders (Titus 1:5), and
  • Be an example of maintaining good works (1 Timothy 4:12; Titus 3:14).
